This course continues investigations into the realms of voxel based medical data geometries and traditional poly-modelling / mesh geometries. Different to the spring course this course will not focus on creating a landscape model but quintessentially will try to redevelop architectural buildings and concepts of London using voxel-based inside-out logic. The course will focus on embedding transferred voxel artefact geometry within an existing architecture leading to its mutation and re-evaluation. Furthermore different to the spring course the course will emphasis on manufacturing and explore the logics of sheet material (CNC, Lasercut ...), their joints and details and volume materials (prototyping).

  • Session 1: Monday 18th Jan:

  • -Importing the models- Introduction to voxel-based medical software

  • -Introduction to Rhino/Max/Modo - hand-out of 3d models

  •  

  • Session 2: Monday 25th Jan:

  • -Transfer logic between voxel-based software and mesh-based platforms

  • -Ideation for the term project

  •  

  • Session 3: Monday 1st Feb:

  • -Mesh optimisation techniques / voxel to mesh

  • -Preparation of the sheet material/contouring/unrolling

  • Session 4: Monday 8th Feb:

  • -Mutation / hybridisation / cross platform routines

  • Session 5: Monday 15th Feb:

  • -Working session - focus mesh/polygon modelling

  • Session 6: Monday 22nd Feb:

  • -Working session - focus production / sheet
