Intermediate - Spring 2010

Articulated skin patterns will be generated in this digital-fabrication course that combines parametric modeling and attraction-scripting using Rhino Grasshopper and the laser cutter.  Students also have the option to combine laser cutting and rapid prototyping. Iterative associative modeling techniques will be used to generate fluid skins in the creating of a prototype model for a bird habitat. Initial modeling will be further defined with the developing of membrane patches, supporting beam, and joint systems. Digital models will be translated into files for the laser cutter and if desired, the rapid prototype machine, using the same parametric platform, in preparation for final physical model assemblage.
