This course will continue the investigation into systemic production modes as both performative and sensual aspects of digital craft. We will focus on the development of digital data sorting techniques and the possibilities of translating visible and invisible material properties into variables of colour, light and penetration patterns. Through the exploration of data driven material effects, we will experiment with different modes of manufacturing techniques in order to generate a series of fabricated data prototypes. The setup of the task will be to develop a “luminous object” using the active properties of mouldable materials via simple geometrical principles that are sorted based on; patterning, light, colour and structural performance. Using Rhino3D as our digital platform and incorporating; algorithmic logics, fabrication processes and representational indexes, we will target functional design issues related to constructability and fabrication in relation to desired architectural effects in order to develop a unique and contemporary understanding of ‘informed materiality’.
