The course continues the conceptual computational framework set out in the autumn by looking at Augmented Reality (AR) as another potential site of spatial investigation using real-time video-based input. The development of AR technology has been evolving for more than 10 years, but only recently has it been more opportunistically popularized in the advertising world (e.g. Esquire magazine with 3D Robert Downey Jr. popping out of the 2D QR code). This term students would use the web-cam as the main hardware and Processing/Java as the main scripting software to implement the AR experiments (i.e. video-feeding, making & tracking 2D QR pattern and creating & importing 3D objects). These real-time experiments would be documented as a recorded video illustrating interesting overlaying of physical 2D & virtual 3D spatial entities in unison.
