MS-Core
MS-Lab
A workshop series with Anderson Inge and Trevor Flynn, aimed at developing design thinking and communication strategies for architecture. The workshop will benefit from a unique level of access being made available by Sir John Soane’s Museum, including: the drawing and model archives; galleries for extended drawing and study; education facility; and a look into the current design work by Caruso St John.
Soane, practicing 200 years ago, is renowned for an inventiveness and playfulness with form, space and light. His work demonstrates a unique, extensive range of strategies for developing and realizing architectural solutions. Sir John Soane’s Museum began as his home in the late 18th Century, became his studio and atelier, and today is dubbed ‘an academy of architecture’ for the richness housed there ever since. We will attempt to learn a similarly playful and extended vocabulary, in terms of methods and solutions, by studying and deconstructing the Museum and its collections. We will try to internalize the experience by producing extensive drawings, and through the production of a ‘touchstone’ or artefact stemming from our time there.
Participants will have the opportunity to exhibit their best work at the AA around Easter.
